Hello there, I’m Eliana. It’s nice to meet you.

Whenever I introduce myself to someone new, I begin with “Hi, my name’s Eliana Jacobsen, and I’m a student of Loyola University Chicago. While my home base is here in the Windy City, I pride myself on becoming a student of the world. I’m a dedicated public servant and communications professional with a major in political science, a minor in public relations and a pension for finding myself in unique places.

Over the course of my college career I have competed at Oxford University in Oxford, England in British Parliamentary Debate as a member of Loyola’s prestigious debate team. I have engaged in an International PR campaign for the UK company Brompton in London, and took a seven week sojourn through Italy, The Netherlands and Czechia. Travelling around the world and engaging with students and professionals in a multitude of fields has been uniquely rewarding.

I have not only come to develop a deeper understanding of the complexity of global issues, but have fostered a far reaching network of young leaders whose insights will contribute to our shared global understanding in the future. When I’m not catching up with a friend in an English pub or on the hunt for a new experience, I’m writing about them.

I spent my freshman and sophomore year of college scrambling around the city in pursuit of local dives, up-and-coming artists and major motion picture producers as an arts and entertainment reporter for The Loyola Phoenix. My favorite moments included a transnational phone interview with European jazz artists The Ezra Collective and a lively conversation in the pent house of The Congress Plaza Hotel with Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani, promoting their upcoming comedy, “Stuber.” I spent weeks on my toes, ready to pick up my camera, my phone and a ride on the L to follow my latest lead. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Since then, I have begun a new career on the opposite side of the pitch email as an account coordinator for Chicago’s first and only student-run media and communications firm, Inigo Communications. At Inigo I have the opportunity to work with clients as large and complex as LeadingAge, a national healthcare organization, or as intimate and unique as North Shore Nest, a luxury design company in Chicago. The most important part of my job is my favorite, working with and on behalf of people. I use my experiences to create lasting, meaningful relationships between communities and the companies and organizations that serve them.

As a writer, public relations specialist, explorer and political news junkie, I have never failed to find fascinating experiences in all types of communities anywhere I go. Although circumstances around the globe are not ideal at the moment, I know my insatiable curiosity will have me traveling to new places and working with new professionals before long. If the world is as intriguing to you as it is to me, then let’s begin the conversation here.
